I'm dedicated to helping retailers, just like you, gain control of your business so you can turn your passion for product into profit AND PAY your BILLS
If you're like most small retailers, you just want a business that pays the bills and lights you up. But you struggle to make ends meet. It seems like you never have enough money in your bank account to pay your bills even though you're constantly trying to drum up sales. You're feeling exhausted and burnt out…and it feels like there's not enough hours in the day to get everything done. Asking questions in facebook groups or googling on the internet gives tidbits and pieces of information, but it's overwhelming and confusing — I mean, how does all the information all fit together anyway?? You don't know what to do first to really change the way you run your business so that you can make a profit, pay your bills and pay yourself. You're starting to really wonder if your dream of owning a boutique is even worth it.
Don't give up on that dream — I can help!

As a young woman, I learned the joys and challenges of small retailers when my parents built, and then lost their retail business. That was a tough time for our family, and an experience I never forgot. But it didn't stop me from pursuing a career in retail…instead it shaped how my passion for retail would unfold. I started working in retail to pay my way through school, and when I graduated, I joined a national retailer in their buying department. I had amazing mentors, the opportunity to learn industry best practices and experience some incredible results. I touched on all aspects of retail from working in the stores, to buying, planning and product development; marketing, visual merchandising and team leadership. I realized I had a talent for both the art of retail ( a passion for buying and showcasing product), and the science of retail (the numbers side of the business). As I moved up the corporate ladder, so to speak, my role evolved to coaching and developing teams in these skills and in trekking the world in the discovery of new and innovative retailers. I loved it! I mean, who wouldn't? But I did start to feel a vague dissatisfaction with seeing the same product everywhere — a problem I felt was largely driven by over expansion and globalization of the larger retailers. And then came COVID! The world changed almost instantly — and it accelerated changes in the retail industry like never before — it changed how customers buy forever. And it also gave me pause as to how I wanted to evolve my career.
My husband and I relocated from Montreal to the beautiful UNESCO town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and I decided to turn my love of coaching towards mentoring the indie retail community. I am passionate about the role indie retailers play in shaping our communities and our lives — their uniqueness and their creativity are just some of the things that I love about them! I spent the first year really immersing myself in the indie community, and honing up on the key challenges they faced so that I could best understand how to apply what I knew about retail & buying to help them to succeed. As I worked with more and more retailers, I realized that no matter how big or small the company, the core principles of being a successful retailer are the same:
I value and respect uniqueness and diversity — after all, isn't that a part of what being an independent retailer is all about?
I believe the relationships with our associates, our vendors, our customers and our community must be based on respect, fairness and integrity.
I believe that retailers should be PRODUCT LED BUSINESSES
I believe in a fair price for a fair product….
A focus on quality over quantity…and
Sourcing from responsible vendors….it's not about 'us' vs 'them'…it's about building great relationships with our vendors and what 'we' can do collectively together to create and deliver great product.
I am passionate about helping independent retailers find ways to reduce their environmental footprint through sustainability in sourcing, packaging and shipping.
